Q and A with Science Mule

Q. What’s new in the field of Food Science?

A. Glad you asked, scientists have recently found bird flu viruses in our pasteurized milk. Biologists say there is no need for panic but if you were going to panic anyway, now’s a good time.

Q. How about some GOOD news?

A. Okay. Chemists have found a way to create artificial diamonds under regular atmospheric pressure, using an amalgam of Gallium, Nickel, Iron and Silicon.

Q. Wow! How much Gallium does one need for this process?

A. Physical Chemists say a good rule of thumb is to spend two months salary on your Gallium.

Q. Any good news that affects ME?

A. Well, they’ve come up with a vaccine for bees to keep their hives from being destroyed by bacterial infection.

Q. They inoculate bees? Why would they do that?

A. Revenge? Turns out, the person inoculating them can only sting one bee and then that person dies.

Q. I guess that’s dedication.

A. Oh, and the largest stellar black hole in our galaxy was detected by the European Space Agency’s Gaia mission. It is estimated to be 2000 light years from Earth.

Q. They saw a black hole?

A. You don’t “see” a black hole… they are invisible. You detect them. Anyway, it is the second nearest black hole that they’ve never seen. Astronomers hope to not see more of them as the project goes on. Some are panicking over its nearness to Earth but most of those people were already panicking over bird flu in their milk…

Q. Can we talk about anything but milk and bird flu?

A. Sure, Koreans have created a micro-supercapacitor that can be folded, twisted and bent… according to an article in npj Flexible Electronics.

Q. What is surprising or interesting about that?

A. That there is actually a journal called npj Flexible Electronics. The micro-supercapacitors are used to power mechanisms like the brain implant chips they use to keep us interested in the ongoing feud between Taylor Swift and Kim Kardasian.

Q. I’m interested in their feud. I see Kim Kardasian as the injured party.

A. You don’t SEE Kim Kardasian… you DETECT her. You can theorize her existence based on those around her saying, “Hey! That’s Kim Kardasian!”

Q. What about Taylor Swift?

A. Well, SHE’S a national treasure…
