What Can I Do? A Riff…

We do not do these riffs because they are easy.  We do them because… they are hahd

[Remember when you were a kid, sitting around with your family… and the television wasn’t on because no one felt like climbing onto the tin roof and adjusting the antenna so you sat around riffing on one topic with your family? Neither do I but it’s fun to pretend…]

I saw a speech about doing your duty to your community and I asked, “What can I do? I’m only one man”

In the audience was a salesman who was about to die. He approached the speaker and asked, “What can I do? I’m only Loman”

Sean Connery, Roger Moore, George Lazenby, Timothy Dalton, Pierce Brosnan and Daniel Craig were also in attendance. When it was over, the six of them stood up and asked, “What can we do? We are only one man”

An immigrant from Acapulco was similarly fired up. “What can I do?”, he asked, “I’m only Juan, man”

A sea cow also listened in. When he got the orator’s attention, he asked, “What can I do? I’m only one manatee”

Bruce Jenner heard the same speech. When it was over, he raised his hand and asked, “What can I do? I’m only one… never mind”

The author of Death in Venice and The Magic Mountain was inspired by the speaker’s message. He asked him, “What can I do? I’m only one Mann”

Frankenstein’s monster was moved as well. He cornered the speaker and asked, “What monster do? Me only six man”

A Zen butterfly had also alighted long enough to hear the rhetoric of the orator. He flitted up to the person at the podium and asked, “What can I do? I’m only a butterfly dreaming I’m a man”

A seeing-eye dog was in the audience. When the speech was over, he found the man who gave it and said, “Woof?”
